The Story

Petal Sway is the dress we make for the days that deserve a little more than a tee and jeans — without asking you to actually try. It starts with a gently scooped sweetheart bodice that holds its shape, adds two cloud-soft puff sleeves, and finishes in a skirt cut wide enough to spin in. The print is our own: small painterly roses scattered across crisp cotton poplin, pretty but never prissy. Somewhere between a Sunday brunch dress and the one you wear on a first date, and it does both without blinking.

About This Piece

The bodice is shaped through the bust and waist with a hidden side zip, so the front of the dress stays smooth and uninterrupted. Short puff sleeves are gathered at the shoulder and closed with a soft elasticated cuff that rests on the upper arm rather than squeezing it, which is why you can wear this one all afternoon. From the waist, the skirt opens into a true fit-and-flare — two full panels with knife pleats at the side seams and a hem wide enough to sit, walk and twirl comfortably.

We chose a woven cotton poplin instead of a knit for one reason: it holds its shape. There is no stretching out at the waist by 4pm, no clinging when the weather turns warm, and the skirt keeps its flare from the first wear to the fiftieth. The whole dress is lined in breathable rayon, so the fabric falls smoothly against the leg and the bodice never turns sheer in bright sunlight — the small detail that makes a light-coloured dress genuinely wearable.

It is also far more versatile than it looks. Flat sandals and a straw bag for a slow morning, low white heels and a red lip for dinner, an oversized cardigan thrown over the shoulders when the evening cools. It packs flat, shakes out with almost no creasing, and moves across seasons: bare legs in July, tights and boots in November. If you only buy one dress this season, this is the one that will actually get worn.
